For 50 years, Barbara Miller at Karosel Kennels in Frenchtown, Montana, has developed innovative, faster ways to train dogs. For the past 15 years, Timothy Glenn Martyn and Barbara Miller have collaborated to transform these methods into an easily teachable format.

Our book, Service Dog Skills Faster: Second Edition, introduces advanced methods to teach mobility service dog skills in a fraction of the time. Our mission is to accelerate the service dog training process and make it possible to add extra, specialized skills. For example, by using cognitive psychology, we can train a service dog to open a door in anywhere from 20 minutes to just a few hours, instead of Months of conditioning.

Over the last five decades, these ideas have been successfully applied to every type of service dog training, as well as herding dogs, advanced obedience competitions, agility, and more. They are equally effective for correcting problem behaviors and rehabilitating traumatized dogs.

Today, Karosel Kennels continues to host ASCA herding trials. These trials are now run by Barbara’s son, Jim, who brings a wealth of experience after winning Nationals with his late dog, Gus. The family legacy runs deep: Barbara and her first dog, Taylor, won 2nd place at Nationals, and her late husband won the Open Nationals for ASCA stock dog trials.

Our ultimate goal is to develop effective ways to help people and their dogs. Service Dog Skills Faster: Second Edition is the first book in our upcoming series.
